Lasering

Box Project

Final Image

This project was a fun project where I cut out and engraved designs onto wood using a lazer cutter. I used a combination of Raster and Vector designs to create a really intricate box on the wood!

My Idea for this project was kind of all over the place. I wanted to have all sorts of things that I felt represented me on the sides of box. I also wanted to not only have engravings and cuts but some additional dimension to the project. The big thing that I kept in mind throughout this was that I wanted to have every side (except for the base) have an opening or a cut of sorts, so if I were to put a tealight into the box, the light would pour out of all of the sides.

The top of the box is a heart that is pretty geometric and has cutouts of triangles so you can look into the top to see the bottom. The bottom of the box is one of my favorite quotes, "The universe said I love you because you are love." I had pretty much all of my friends and family draw hearts on a piece of paper and I scanned those into illustrator and put them surrounding the quote which was engraved. The first side is a bouquet of flowers, and there is a dotted line circle surrounding the flowers to let light in. The next side is two gears that I attached with some superglue to my box. The side after that is a planet that I engraved that has star cutouts all throughout the background to give a galaxy vibe. The final slide is a paper airplane that I cut out and attached to the box with superglue and some dotted line cutouts to make a path.
